In July of this year, the leaders of the eight major industrial democracies will come together at the Group of Eight (G8) Japan Summit, to be held in Hokkaido Toyako, providing UNU with a unique opportunity.

G8 Dialogue Series

In its function as a think-tank for the UN-system fostering intellectual cooperation among scholars, scientists, and practitioners worldwide, the UNU will offer innovative perspectives and fresh ideas on key agenda issues of the G8 Summit. Combining the in-house and external expertise of both Japanese and international scholars, the UNU is mobilizing its intellectual resources in order to create a platform for dialogue on the G8 through a G8 Dialogue Series. In doing so, the UNU has the potential to influence the output of the upcoming G8 Japan Summit in Hokkaido Toyako while raising public awareness and discussion on G8 issues.

G8 Think Pieces

By means of a series of “Think Pieces” on the G8, the UNU-IAS is utilizing its community of world renowned scholars to engage the national media and both the local and international public to promote discussion on key priority areas. The purpose of the G8 Think Pieces is to foster intellectual innovation on a diverse range of G8 related fields and policy areas. By providing concrete suggestions for policy actions and strategies on a selected number of carefully chosen topics, these publications will be directly linked to the preparations for and follow-up of the G8 summit. The G8 Think Pieces will be published both online and targeted to the national media. Furthermore, a limited number G8 Think Piece authors are being invited to present their arguments as part of the G8 Dialogue Series evening events at the UNU-Centre.
