The annual summit of the Group of Eight (G8) highly industrialised nations was held from the 7 to 9 July 2008 at Toyako on the island of Hokkaido, Japan. Amongst key themes on the agenda is the world economy - including concerted action to address the rising price of oil, the environment - including tackling climate change, and political challenges such as nuclear non-proliferation. Likewise central on the agenda are the challenges facing the African continent; the African development agenda.

Since February 2008, UNU-IAS has hosted a G8 Dialogue Series drawing on expertise of both in-house and international scholars on the key policy issues of the G8 agenda
G8 Think Pieces
Several G8 Think Pieces have also been published by UNU-IAS affiliated scholars to engage the national media, local and international public to promote discussion on key priority areas.

During the weeks leading up to 7-9 July, UNU-IAS monitored media coverage of the G8 Summit to present key decisions and perspectives;

Secondly, media coverage of the African development agenda at the G8 is being monitored from both inside and outside of the African continent.
