The Fourth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IV) was held on 28-30 May 2008 hosted by the city of Yokohama, also home to the UNU Institute of Advanced Studies. Held once every five years since 1993, this was the first time TICAD will be convened in a city other than Tokyo.
UNU-IAS has long standing research programmes and activities of direct relevance to this TICAD meeting, which for the first time includes climate change and the environment as official agenda items.
- UNU-IAS was actively involved in the lead-up to TICAD IV hosting a number of events. See Pre-TICAD Activities for details.
- The Institute convened a Pre-TICAD Public Forum on Science and Technology for Africa during TICAD week on Monday, 26 May.
- During TICAD, the Institute convened three official side events.
- In addition, UNU and UNU-IAS monitored local and international media in the run up to TICAD IV. See Media Watch for details.
