Seminar Description
This presentation will examine the prospects of environmental governance with reference to its spatial dimension. The presentation defines how, given the trend of postmodern urban growth and the complex face of rurality in India, multilevel governance systems can be attempted that seek to reconcile local action with national and global priorities. The presentation seeks to propose a workable system of environmental governance for India that integrates National Environmental Policies with local priorities and the goals embedded in Multilateral Environmental Agreements.

Speaker's Biography
A Damodaran is Professor with the Economics and Social Sciences Area, Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. His area of specialization is environmental economics with focus on global public Goods. He has several well received papers in the area and has worked extensively on climate and biodiversity financing. He is the author of the book Encircling the seamless: India, Climate Change and Global Commons, published by the Oxford University Press in 2010. He is also a member of the International Expert Group set up by the UNCBD to assess the financial requirements for GEF 6.
